TRI-CITY AREA — Local residents have been receiving new voter ID cards in the mail.
Kim Diefenbach, Dryden Township Clerk, said that after the 2020 census, redistricting took place and information on voter’s old ID cards is no longer correct. Diefenbach notes that, according to state law, when redistricting occurs, the municipalities are required to send out new voter ID cards.

Voter ID cards don’t need to be brought to the polls but are intended to inform residents of new voting districts.
“The voter card is used to tell residents where to vote, and what district they are voting for in the election,” Diefenbach explained.
The voter ID cards are not required to vote, and are only informational for voters.
“Voters are only receiving these because there was a change in districts. We paid a printer company to produce and mail the new cards,” she said.
Diefenbach said that if someone receives more than one card, it was simply a printing error and it is nothing to be concerned about. Any voter that receives an ID card for a past resident can drop it off at their respective township or city office.
Any registered voter who does not receive a new ID card is urged to contact their local clerk.
