Mary “Peggy” Schutz, age 90, of Imlay City, MI died Friday, June 3, 2022 at Serene Gardens of Imlay City, MI. Mary Margaret Schutz was born July 26, 1931 in Willis, MI. She was the daughter of the late Guy and the late Cresczentia Grace (Minick) Heath. Peggy grew up in Willis, MI and moved to North Branch at the age of fifteen. She was a graduate of North Branch High School, Class of 1949. She married Thomas Peter Schutz on November 5, 1949 in North Branch, MI. Peggy and Thomas moved to Imlay City in 1960. She was preceded in death by Thomas in December 2012.

Peggy was a homemaker raising her children and participating in their lives. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City, belonged to the Altar Society, and she also taught Catechism classes. Peggy was a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout leader and an Imlay City High School band-booster. She loved to dance. She and Tom were great polka dancers. She danced in tap, ballroom and clogging competitions. Every day she would write in her journal about her family and things going on around her.

Peggy is survived by her daughters, Suzanne (Russell) Brown of Clio, MI, Margaret (Chris) Colley of Lapeer, MI, Phoebe Schutz of Lake Orion, MI, Dianne (Jim) Carpinelli of Noblesville, IN, Patty (Matt) Jackson of Lapeer, MI and Cressy (Barry) Cook of Osteen, FL; sons, Jeff (Michelle) Schutz of Attica, MI, John (Susan) Schutz of Imlay City, MI and Tommy (Kelly) Schutz of Imlay City, MI. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Quin, Annette, Amy, Russ, Jill, Jeanette, Carolyn, Julie, J.T., Joey, Jamie, Keith, David, Gerald, Anthony, Kaitlin, Brandon, Connie, John and Sandy; more than 25 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Schutz; infant children, David and Carolyn; her parents; sisters, Monica Jean Hovatter and Holly Knault; and brothers, Fred Heath, Craig Heath, Ron Heath and Bill Heath.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 700 Maple Vista, Imlay City, MI. Reverend Father Noel Cornelio, pastor of Sacred Heart, will be officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, North Branch, MI.

The family will be available for visiting hours from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, June 9 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI and from 9-10 a.m. Friday, June 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 700 Maple Vista, Imlay City, MI.

A Rosary/Scripture services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday evening.
