ATTICA TWP. — Last week the I-69 project moved into its latest construction phase with a traffic shift and subsequent ramp closures.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced on Friday that westbound traffic was to be shifted to the eastbound roadbed as part of the seven-plus mile rebuild project between Lake George Road in Attica and M-24 in Lapeer.

Additionally the following ramps will be closed to all traffic until November.

•Westbound I-69 to M-24

•Westbound I-69 to Wilder Road

•Wilder Road to westbound I-69

•Lake Pleasant Road to westbound I-69

•Southbound M-24 to eastbound I-69 may be closed dependent on volumes following the traffic switch.

“Westbound traffic will be switched back to the westbound side of the freeway at the end of the construction season. In spring 2023, work will begin to rebuild eastbound I-69 and the Five Lakes Rest Area, with additional traffic restrictions in place at that time,” MDOT stated in a press release.

Funding for the $54.5 million project is made possible through the Rebuilding Michigan program.
