Comments to be heard starting at 9 a.m. at K of C Hall

GOODLAND TWP. — This Saturday, May 14, the Goodland Township Planning Commission will host a public hearing for Orion Renewable Energy Group’s proposed solar development.

The hearing starts at 9 a.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, located at 1405 N. Van Dyke Rd. Members of the public will have the chance to voice their opinions on the developer’s special land use permit and site plan submitted under the name, Goodland Solar Farm LLC. Orion has requested that both the special land use permit and site plan review process be considered together.

Earlier this year, California-based Orion Renewable Energy Group submitted their plans for a 1,713 acre solar facility with approximately 826 of those acres to contain actual solar panels with a 100 megawatt capacity. The project roughly encompasses property between Bowers Road to the south, Shaw Road to the north, Cade Road to the east and Sisson Road to the west.

Those unable to attend the hearing or who would prefer to submit comments in written form can do by submitting them to the Goodland Township Planning Commission and sent to the township hall, 2374 N. Van Dyke, Imlay City. Written comments will be received through the close of the public hearing.

Per the township’s ordinance all property owners within 300 feet of all the participating parcels were to be notified of the hearing by mail.
