CAPAC — The Capac wrestling team qualified four grapplers to the Division 4 individual state finals March 4-5 at Ford Field in Detroit.
They earned the right to compete there with top-four weight class performances last Saturday at a Division 4 regional in Ithaca.
Derek Mason and John Schoen led Capac with thirds. Mason ended his run at 145 pounds when he pinned New Lothrop’s Jack Kulhanek with 2:42 gone and Schoen concluded 152-pound action with a 2-0 win against Bad Axe’s Logan Miles.
Jeff Helzer and Hunter Tyson added fourths to Capac’s cause. Helzer completed his run at 119 pounds when he was downed 4-1 by St. Charles foe Matias Escamilla and Tyson wrapped up 160-pound action when he was pinned by Ravenna’s Zeke Thompson with 3:31 gone.
