Brown City wins team district title in thriller

 

CAPAC — In a Division 4 district wrestling championship clash which saw Brown City and host Capac finish with 42 points each last Thursday, the former moved on to regional via the sixth tiebreaker (fewest forfeits allowed).

With the outcome, Brown City advances to Thursday’s regional at Cass City where Vassar provides the opposition. Capac wraps an 11-5 campaign.

A group consisting of Tyler McKenney, Jeff Helzer, Derek Mason, John Schoen, MaLakai Kelly and Jesus Guerrero led Capac with wins by pin. McKenney took 1:18 to down 112-pound foe Kevin Spudowski; Helzer required 1:59 to stop Nolan Fischer at 125 pounds; Mason needed 55 seconds to defeat 145-pound counterpart Brian Mulholland; Schoen took 58 seconds to beat Tanner Gingell at 152 pounds; Kelly required 27 seconds to conquer 189-pound rival Noah Holland; and Guerrero needed 1:36 to defeat Devin Daws at 285 pounds.

Shane Clor (135) added a victory by void to Capac’s cause.
