CAPAC — The Capac wrestling team claimed a third-place finish last Saturday at the GTC Tournament in Sandusky.
Cass City topped the standings with 168 points. They were followed by Brown City (143 points), Capac (102), Bad Axe (83.5), Marlette (81), Vassar (75), Memphis (74), Sandusky and Ubly (68 each), Caro (51.5), Mayville (43) and Elkton-Pigeon BayPort (40).
Tyler McKenney led Capac with a first. McKenney ended a successful day on the mats with an 11-4 win against Cass City 112-pound foe Zachary Cowdry.
Derek Mason and John Schoen gave Capac seconds. The former reached the 145-pound title match where he dropped a 4-2 verdict to Cass City’s Cameron Gottschalk and the latter made the championship clash at 152 pounds where he was pinned with 2:55 elapsed by Sandusky’s Chase Hartz.
Hunter Tyson provided Capac with a third. Tyson wrapped up 160-pound action when he pinned Sandusky’s Blake Sizemore with 2:44 gone.
Shane Clor added a fourth to Capac’s cause. Clor his stint at 135 pounds when he was pinned by Caro’s Blayne Farris with 1:33 elapsed.
