Joy MacKenzie, age 78, of Lake Orion, MI died Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Lake Orion Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Lake Orion, MI. Joy Marie Schwinkendorf was born October 24, 1943 in Detroit, MI. She was the daughter of the late Harold and the late Marion Schwinkendorf. Joy grew up in Dearborn, MI. She was a graduate of Dearborn High School, Class of 1961. She continued her education at Detroit School of Business where she earned her associate degree. She married Malcolm MacKenzie June 29, 1991 in Plymouth, MI.
She was employed as a payroll accountant for CVS Corporation in Troy, MI before retiring. Prior to CVS, Joy was employed for Arbor Drugs as a payroll accountant.
Joy is survived by her husband, Malcolm MacKenzie; sister, Janice (Hal) Kay Hooks of Imlay City, MI; her nieces, Ashley (Phil) Romine and Susan (Todd) Bigley; nephews, Aaron (Cody Hoover) Hooks and Jon (Sheri) Schwinkendorf; her great-niece, Madeline Bigley; great-nephews, Griffin Romine and Tucker Romine; and her sister-in-law, Joan Schwinkendorf Murray.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Marion Schwinkendorf; brother, Harold “Spike” Schwinkendorf; and her nephew, Scott Schwinkendorf.
The memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 29, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 715 N. Lapeer Road, Lake Orion, MI. Reverend Fr. John Carlin, associate pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will officiate.
The family will be available for visitation 10:30-11 a.m., Saturday, January 29, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Arrangements for Joy’s cremation were entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI.
