Ida Grapentin, age 73, of Metamora, MI died Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at McLaren Flint Region Medical Center. Ida Mae Dillon was born October 1, 1948 in Huntington, WV. She was the daughter of the late Liss and Marie (Stroud) Dillion. Ida grew up in the Shelby Township/Utica, MI area. Ida was a graduate of Utica High School, Class of 1967. She married Philip David Grapentin on May 26, 1979 at Thornville Baptist Church.
Ida and Phil have lived all over the lower Thumb (Almont, Imlay City, Lapeer, Capac, Flint, Caro and now Metamora). Ida worked as a hairdresser, a waitress, and for a short time at a metal fabrication company in Lapeer. Mostly she was a homemaker raising her family and loving caring for her grandchildren. Ida enjoyed bowling on their church leagues and singing in the church choir, crafting, cooking and quilting. Ida especially enjoyed preening and dotting on the children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Philip Grapentin of Metamora; five sons, Eric (Becky) Hill of Irons, MI, Jeremy (Dawn) Grapentin of Flint, MI, Adam Grapentin of Metamora, MI, Jordan (Candace) Grapentin of Attica, MI and David (Rebecca) Grapentin of Imlay City, MI; her mother, Marie (Stroud) Dillion; five sisters, Oreatha Deljudas, Emma Jean Becker, Catha Miller, Judy Bradley and Elaine Moore; four brothers, Liss Dillon Jr., Eugene Dillon, Robert “Bob” Dillon and Wayne Dillon; also surviving are her 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 30 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City. Pastor Fred Leuck of the Thornville Baptist Church will be officiating. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. January 4, 2022 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI.
The family will be available for visiting hours from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 29 and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, December 30 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI.
