Another senseless mass shooting in Oxford should be the wake up call for Senator Kevin Daley and Representative Gary Howell to introduce legislation to help curb the violence in our “gun society.” How many more shootings do we have to endure before they do something?
Imagine in you were a parent of a Sandy Hook, Parkland or Oxford student and had to deal with an unbearable loss while our state legislators have done very little to stop gun violence in our schools.
It is time for Daley and Howell to stand up to the NRA and acknowledge their dangerous agenda. The NRA has attempted to block all gun safety legislation from becoming law over the past decade. Daley and Howell should introduce legislation to close loopholes that allow criminals and other dangerous people to buy guns without background checks.
Our laws need to be strengthened to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers and law enforcement officials need better tools to shut down gun trafficking and prosecute offenders.
Is there anything the general public can do to help stop gun violence? Yes. We can actively campaign in elections to support those who stand up to the NRA and vote in favor of smart gun laws, expose politicians who accept NRA money and help defeat the politicians who do the bidding of the NRA and put our communities at risk.
Over the years I have attended many meetings, chaired by local politicians who try to mislead the public about gun violence. Let it be clear, Democrats are not trying to take your guns away.
Kevin Daley and Gary Howell, I ask you, what are you going to do legislatively to curb the gun violence in our country?
