I.C. Chamber, DDA decide to move date to avoid conflicts
IMLAY CITY — The Imlay City Chamber of Commerce and DDA have decided to move this year’s lighted Christmas Parade and “Winter Playground” event dates to Saturday, Dec. 11.
The parade and Winter Playground activities are being co-sponsored by the DDA and the Imlay City Area Chamber of Commerce
The 2021 parade and related holiday activities will take place downtown from 5:30-7:30 p.m., with the parade slated to start at 6 p.m.
At the conclusion of the parade, a community tree-lighting will be held at Lamb-Steele Park, followed by visits with Santa Claus at the offices of the Halabicky Insurance Group at 335 E. Third St.
Chamber of Commerce Director Shannon Hamel said there were “good reasons” for moving the parade to the second Saturday of the month.
She noted that the Village of Almont’s traditional Holly Day Light Parade is already scheduled for the evening of Saturday, Dec. 4.
More importantly, Hamel said the Imlay City High School Marching Band is not available for Saturday, Dec. 4.
“We didn’t want to conflict with the Almont parade because there are local businesses owners and community members who want to take part in both parades,” Hamel said.
“With our high school band not being available, and a neighboring community having their parade the same night as ours, we’ve decided to move our parade to Saturday, December 11.”
