Canvassers are currently busy collecting approximately 340,000 signatures for the Secure MI Vote ballot proposal. This should be of great concern to everyone.

The proposal would in fact make voting even more difficult. Yet, what concerns me most is that if this flawed proposal gets enough signatures to be put on the ballot, the Republican-led legislature intends to adopt it, which would in effect prevent Michigan’s citizens from ever voting on it. Republican legislators do not hide from the fact that this is their intention. Because of a flaw in our state’s constitution, our governor would also be unable to veto the measure. This circumvention of the checks and balances inherent in our system of government would permit about 340,000 people—or less than four percent of Michigan’s population—to steal a huge amount of political power.

Do not sign the Secure MI Vote petition!
