TRI-CITY AREA — The Almont and Imlay City boys’ tennis squads took fifth and ninth, respectively, last at a Division 4 regional hosted by Grosse Pointe Liggett last Wednesday.

Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett (32 points), Marine City (19) and Armada (13) held down spots one through three at day’s end.

They advance to the
Division 4 state finals set for this Friday and Saturday in Ann Arbor.

Six other schools
competed at the regional level. Their ranks consisted of Notre Dame Prep (11), Almont (10), Yale (five), Clawson (four), Cros-Lex (two) and Imlay City (zero).

Sam Bussone headlined for Almont that day, generating three points. Bussone reached the title match at first singles where he obtained a second.

Jerry Schurig (third singles), Owen Viaene (fourth singles) plus Clay Roszczewski and Nolan Roszczewski (second doubles) contributed two points apiece to Almont’s cause.

Almont also received one point courtesy of Johnny Hall and Declan Klassa (fourth doubles).
