Entries being sought for DDA’s annual fall contest
ALMONT — The Village of Almont’s Downtown Development Authority is planning their annual scarecrow contest for October 20. Judging will take place at 6 p.m. at the Fountain Park downtown.
Registered participants will be given a frame but the scarecrow’s look is entirely up to them. Contestants will design, decorate and assemble their scarecrow prior to the judging.
Typically groups, organizations, and businesses sign up and build a scarecrow with a look of their choosing to coordinate with the chosen theme. This year, the DDA decided to compliment the Almont High School Homecoming theme and chose “Hollywood” as the Scarecrow Contest theme.
The scarecrows must be fully assembled when judging begins in Fountain Park. After judging, scarecrows will be displayed in town until November 3.
According to Almont Council member Wayne Glasser, this year’s contest is sponsored by Heidebreicht Chevrolet.
Anyone is welcome to participate. There are only 32 spots, so interested participants are asked to register early.
To sign up and pick up a scarecrow frame, stop in to the Edward Jones offices at 780 N. Van Dyke, the former Almont Saddlery Building.
