Joan McLeod, age 85, of Imlay City, MI died Sunday, July 18, 2021 after an extended illness at Angela’s House Assisted Living of Imlay City, MI. Joan Betty Justmann was born June 20, 1936 in Manistee, MI. She was the daughter of the late Harold and the late Emily (Davison) Justmann. Joan grew up in Manistee, MI. She was a graduate of Manistee High School, Class of 1954. Joan completed her nursing training and earned her Registered Nurses Degree at Blodgett Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids in 1957.
She married John Smith McLeod on November 9, 1957 in Manistee, MI. Joan and John lived in Marine City and Romeo before moving to Imlay City in 1980. Joan worked in nursing at Mt. Clemens General Hospital and Almont Community Hospital. She retired from Crittenton Hospital in 1999 after 30-plus years. Joan was a member of the Imlay City United Methodist Church.
Joan is survived by her son, John McLeod, Jr. of Imlay City, MI; daughter, Janet Folkins of Imlay City, MI; and a sister, Kathleen (Bob) Crane of Muskegon, MI. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Tracy (Chris) Aarons and Katie (Logan) McDermott; and great-grandchildren, Addison McDermott, Paizley Aarons, Logan McDermott, Jr. and Aubree McDermott.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, John McLeod, Sr.; her son, Jay William McLeod; and her parents, Harold and Emily Justmann.
Memorial services are being planned for 1 p.m., Saturday, July 24, 2021 at the Imlay City United Methodist Church, 210 N. Almont Avenue, Imlay City, MI.
The family will be available for visitation 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI. Joan’s cremated remains will be interred next to her husband, John and her son, Jay, at Burnside Township Cemetery at a later date.
