The Capac High School Alumni held their annual School Reunion on June 27 at Holly Meadows Golf Course. The alumni reunion is for anyone that has graduated from Capac High School. A buffet meal was served to over 60 alumni. Other alumni dropped in later to visit. Capac Superintendent, Mr. Jeff Terpenning was a special guest. He addressed the crowd filling us in on what has and is happening in our school district and answered questions from the alumni. He then surprised the group with a drawing for a few Capac High School shirts and glasses.
Chairwoman Martha (Brancheau) Niemczura did a fantastic job of getting the word out about the event via email, the alumni Facebook page, alumni website, personal Facebook, and regular mail. COVID prohibited us from having the reunion last year so she diligently worked to compile the list of the names of alumni that had passed away the last two years.
A big thank you to the Capac Schools Superintendent for providing the postage and printing of the almost 500 invitations that went out. Martha sent invitations to an additional 111 email addresses and is in search of more addresses/emails of classmates of any graduating class. If you want to be added to our list or know of anyone else who would like to be invited, please pass the word to contact Martha at capacalumni@gmail.com. She would love to add as many former alumni as possible!
As co-chair I would like to thank the High School for letting us borrow plaques from the school trophy cases to display for the alumni in attendance that earned them.
Thank you to Capac Alumni class of 1967, John Grzyb, President of the Capac Historical Museum, for letting us borrow all the yearbooks to display for the classes that were represented at the reunion and also band, varsity and FFA apparel to display. To everyone’s surprise, in 1914, the CHS colors were green and white on a pennant from the museum! The museum also lent us a pennant from the 1930s in blue and gold that had someone’s picture on it. Old Chieftains and other memorabilia were displayed for alumni to view.
Doris (Brennan) Stuever was the oldest graduate in attendance from the class of 1949. She was given a CHS lanyard for coming. We had classes represented from every year 1949 – 1973. Alberta (Stine) Conrad received a CHS glass memento for celebrating 70 years graduated and Elaine (Staniloui) Killingbeck also received a CHS glass memento for celebrating 60 years graduated. Kathy (Eldridge) Jurn from class of ‘73 was the youngest to attend.
The person who traveled the furthest to come was Shari (Walker) Kavanagh from South Carolina. We also had alumni travel from Tennessee, North Carolina, and all over Michigan. Some gag gifts were presented to Henry Bargiel, class of 1955, Nancy (Owen) Stroman, class of 1956, Sylvia (Granc) Diver, class of 1957, and Ken Jurn, class of 1970, for finally retiring from working 50 years.
We would like to thank everyone for coming, and all those who helped us. We hope everyone enjoyed their day. We look forward to seeing more alumni on June 26, 2022. The Alumni reunion is always held the fourth Sunday in June!
