ALMONT — Jacob Battani, a former standout at Almont High School, excelled for the Grand Valley State University men’s track team at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship on Friday, May 7.
Davenport College, in Caledonia, is where the meet unfolded.
The senior posted a pole vault clearance of 16 feet 5 1/2 inches that day, earning him the distinction of event champion.
With his assistance, Grand Valley State University paced the field assembled. They tallied 300.5 points en route. Ashland (217.5 points), Davenport (68.5), Northwood and Saginaw Valley State University (57 each), Michigan Tech and Wisconsin Parkside (36 apiece), Ferris State (20) and Lake Superior State (19.5) followed.
