MSP continue to investigate details of motorcycle crash

GOODLAND TWP. — A 51-year-old Imlay City man was killed Thursday, June 24, in a collision involving a motorcycle and pickup truck on M-53 and Bowers Rd.

Michigan State Police (MSP) report that at around 2:20 p.m., Dennis James Wilcox was traveling northbound on M-53, when his 2012 Harley Davison motorcycle was struck by a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup.

MSP Lt. Kim Vetter said the driver of the pickup, a 64-year-old Melvin man, failed to yield the right-of-way at the stop sign at Bowers Rd.

Lt. Vetter reported that the driver of the pickup truck was uninjured in the crash.

However, Wilcox was ejected from his motorcycle and initially attended to by people at the scene until EMS arrived. Wilcox was transported to a local hospital and succumbed to his injuries.

Vetter said that charges had not yet been filed against the driver of the pickup truck. She said the crash remains under investigation by the Michigan State Police-Lapeer Post. Also responding to the scene were Imlay City Police, Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department and Lapeer County EMS.

Funeral services for Wilcox were held yesterday, June 29, at Muir Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center. To see his obituary, see page 13-A.
