COVID deaths in Lapeer County
drop more than half
TRI-CITY AREA — COVID-19 numbers continue to improve.
Both Lapeer and St. Clair counties once again saw the number of new cases and positive test rates decline in the past week.
Lapeer County saw their number of virus deaths drop by more than half but St. Clair County’s remained virtually unchanged. Five deaths were recorded in Lapeer County between May 4-10 versus 13 the week prior. St. Clair County recorded 22 deaths between the 4th and 10th, compared to 21 the week prior.
As of May 10 Lapeer County’s positive test rate was 7.1 percent and St. Clair’s was 13.4 percent.
Vaccine latest
Yesterday, May 11, the Lapeer County Health Department held another drive-in vaccination clinic at the Eastern Michigan State Fairgrounds. Attendees received first or second doses of the Moderna vaccine or the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
A May 20 vaccine clinic will be held at the Imlay City Senior Center. To schedule an appointment, call the Hispanic Service Center at 810-724-3665.
Currently the health department offers walk-in clinic times—from 3-6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 12-4 p.m. on Wednesdays.
