TRI-CITY AREA — From the first game until the last, these players set the standard for excellence with their play out on the floor.
Here is look at who gained selection to the 2020-21 Tri-City Times All-Area boys’ basketball team and the numbers they accumulated along the way:
Jack Kaplan, Dryden.
Kaplan averaged a Tri-City best output of 22.9 points per contest during the 2020-21 campaign.
The 5-10 senior guard also averaged 7.6 rebounds, 4.6 steals and 4.5 assists per contest.
This was his fourth year on Dryden’s varsity.
Kaplan, who finished his career with over 1,500 points, ended the 2020-21 campaign as an All-North Central Thumb League first team selection.

Joey Savel, Almont.
Savel tossed in 16.6 points per contest during the 2020-21 season, good for first on the Almont squad and second among Tri-City Times All-Area first team picks.
The 6-0 senior guard also averaged 2.3 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists a game.
This was his third season on Almont’s varsity.
Savel concluded the 2020-21 season as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team choice.
Parker Lewis, Imlay City.
Lewis wound up with 13.2 points per contest during the 2020-21 campaign, leaving him first on the Imlay City squad and third among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.
The 6-6 senior forward also averaged 7.3 rebounds, 1.1 steals, 1.1 blocks and 1.0 assist a game.
This was his third year on Imlay City’s varsity.
Lewis completed the year as an All-Blue Water Area Conference second team pick.
Blake Campbell, Almont.
Campbell netted 10.3 points per contest during the 2020-21 season, good for second on the Almont squad and fourth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team picks.
The 5-10 junior guard also averaged 3.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.9 steals a game.
This was his second season on Almont’s varsity.
Campbell wrapped up the season as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable selection.
Merrick Maris, Dryden.
Maris averaged 10.0 points per contest during the 2020-21 campaign, leaving him second on the Dryden squad and fifth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.
The 5-9 junior guard also averaged 2.2 steals a game.
This was his first season on Dryden’s squad.
Maris finished the year as an All-North Central Thumb League second team choice.
Charlie Koenig, Almont.
Koenig generated 9.2 points per contest during the 2020-21 season, good for third on the Almont squad and sixth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team picks.
This was the second season for Koenig, a 5-9 senior guard, on Almont’s varsity.
Koenig concluded the 2020-21 season as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention pick.
Nate Schenkel, Dryden.
Schenkel averaged 8.9 points per contest during the 2020-21 campaign, leaving him third on the Dryden squad and seventh among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.
The 6-4 senior center also averaged 10.4 rebounds and 3.6 blocks a game.
This was his fourth year on Dryden’s varsity.
Schenkel completed the 2020-21 campaign as an All-North Central Thumb League second team selection.
Second team- Joey Montney, Capac; Beau Hund, Imlay City; Ben Laskowski, Capac; Scott Pape, Almont; Josh Schornak, Dryden; Blake Cody, Almont; and Logan Walton, Almont.
Honorable mention- Harry Atkinson, Dryden; Raymond Liu, Imlay City; Andrew Badder, Imlay City; Jared Fahley, Capac; Danny Parski, Capac; Danny Laskowski, Capac; and Jacob Burgess, Dryden.
Coach of the Year- John Delcampo, who directed Dryden to a 12-3 overall mark and a top NCTL finish, earns Tri-City Times All-Area Coach of the Year accolades.
