Rose Schutte, 98, (formerly of Royal Oak) recently of Imlay City, MI, died Monday, March 8, 2021 after a very short illness, at Stonegate Health Campus of Lapeer, MI. Rose was born August 26, 1922 in Bessemer, MI. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and the late Rose (Borek) Marshalek. Rose grew up in Bessemer, MI (east of Ironwood in the Upper Peninsula). She was a graduate of Bessemer High School. She married Joseph Schutte on June 20, 1942 in Bessemer, MI. Rose and Joseph lived in Southfield, MI for a short period before moving to Royal Oak, MI.
She was primarily a homemaker, raising her daughter. However, Rose worked for a period of time at Ex-cello Corporation in Hamtramck during WW II and later at a car dealership, as a representative of Vesco Oil, in Royal Oak. She liked to volunteer at her daughter’s school cafeteria. Rose was also a Red Cross Blood Bank volunteer and helped at the funeral lunches at the Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Sharon Schutte of Imlay City; her sisters, Frances Johnson of Traverse City, MI and Mary Ackerman of Mt. Clemens, MI; her brother, Stanley (Carol) Marshalek of Grand Blanc, MI; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; sisters, Josephine, Caroline and Sophie; and her brothers, George and Tony.
The Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 29, 2021 at National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica Catholic Church, 2100 Twelve Mile Road, Royal Oak, MI. Reverend Fr. John McKenzie, pastor of the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica Catholic Church, will officiate.
Due to recent health concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing (six feet apart), masks (to be worn at all times), and limited occupation of the church will be enforced.
The family will be available for visitation 9:30 – 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2021 at the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica Catholic Church.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI.
