I want to share what Travis Weber of the Family Research Council wrote about The Equality Act (EA) of the Democratic Party.
If passed this bill would:
•Jeopardize women’s privacy and safety. It would mandate abortion access and special privileges for sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI), leaving women, children, medical professionals and people of faith to suffer the consequences.
•Penalize female athletes by allowing biological men to compete in women’s sports.
•The expansion of the Title II “Public Accommodations” definition means that females would no longer have privacy in public restrooms, locker rooms, showers or even battered women’s shelters.
•The EA would interfere with the medical profession forcing doctors and others who provide legitimate hormone treatments and surgical procedures for patients with certain physical conditions to offer those treatments for individuals with gender dysphoria. Their moral or medical opinions about assisting individuals in physically altering their bodies would be disregarded.
•Religious freedom would be seriously eroded as the EA exempts itself from the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). The expansion of public accommodations could require churches and houses of worship to violate their beliefs regarding how they use their facilities. Changes to employment law would prohibit some houses of worship from ensuring their clergy and employees abide by their doctrines or beliefs about marriage, sexual behavior, and the distinction between the sexes. Faith based charities’ ability to operate would be inhibited.
•Inhibit faith-based charities that play a vital role in the adoption and foster care systems that generally receive their funding under Title IV of the Social Security Act, to operate. They would be forced to violate their beliefs or shutdown, displacing children.
