Hazel Herr-Fadness, 83, of Lapeer, died Sunday, February 14, 2021 at McLaren Lapeer Region Hospital. Hazel Margaret Whiting was born March 23, 1937 in Beckley, WV. She was the daughter of the late Gale and the late Nanny (Martin) Whiting. Hazel grew up in West Virginia. She moved to Oxford, MI at the age of 21. Hazel lived in the Oxford and Lake Orion, MI area until 10 years ago when she moved to Lapeer. She married Lowell Herr. Hazel and Lowell had nine children together. Lowell preceded Hazel in death in 1976. Hazel married Monte Fadness on August 27, 1982 in Lakeville, MI. Monte preceded her in death on October 17, 2009.
She was employed as a machine operator by General Motors in Caro, MI before retiring in the 1980s. Through the years, Hazel was employed at Atwater Aquarium from the 1970s into the 1980s, Letica Plastics in Rochester, MI, and she also cleaned homes. Hazel was a member of Calvary Bible Church in Lapeer. She loved being around family and friends and going to Calvary Bible Church. Hazel enjoyed working in her yard and planting flowers. She loved to travel, read her Bible, word searches, and watching television. Hazel made sure to ride her stationery bike five miles every day. She loved and was very proud of all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Carla (Keith) Hubert, Pamela Waite, Jim Herr, Joe (Lisa) Herr, Lila Bullock, Gene (Dawn) Herr, Becky Rodge, Gale (Laura) Herr and Richard Herr; her sisters, Mary (George) Martin and Betty Adkins; her brothers, Bob Whiting, Bud Whiting, Ken (Kay) Whiting, and Ernie (Linda) Whiting; and her brother-in-law, Johnny Evans. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Holly, David, Matthew, Michael, Andrew, Nicholas, Anthony, Tyler, Trevor, Kyle, Christopher, Amber, Lea and Kelsey; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Monty Fadness; her first husband, Lowell Herr; sisters, Helen Turner, Edith (Gene) Pierces, Anna (Bruno) Leppanen and Wendy Evans; her brother, David (Pat) Whiting; sisters-in-law, Betty Whiting and Gladis Whiting; brother-in-law, James Adkins; and her grandson, Brian.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Calvary Bible Church, 923 S. Main Street, Lapeer, MI. Reverend Jeremy Lazzell, pastor of Calvary Bible Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Oxford Cemetery, Oxford, MI.
The family will be available for visitation from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Calvary Bible Church.
Due to recent health concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing (six feet apart), masks (to be worn at all times), and limited occupation (25 people at a time) of the funeral home will be enforced.
