Our beautiful energetic mother, JoAnne Marie Wiegand of Almont, MI, joined Dad and Jesus on January 6, 2021 after a battle with multiple myeloma and anemia. She was born on April 28, 1935 to John and Mary Brohl. She grew up on a family farm on Common Road in Warren along with her siblings. At 16, she began working in the kitchen at Charwood School, eventually becoming the head cook. She met the love of her life, George Wiegand, at a church picnic just two months before he left for the Korean War. They were married on November 27, 1954 and were blessed with seven children. They farmed on George’s parents’ farm in Utica until purchasing their own farm on 26 Mile Road in Washington Township. There they raised produce for market and the Chatham food stores. They established a family greenhouse business as well. Eventually they sold the farm and built their dream house in Almont. They were active in their church, Knights of Columbus, and seniors. They took many trips and enjoyed their cottage in Bellaire. Mom loved to fish, do crafts and garage sale. She was an amazing cook, baker and gardener. She volunteered her time decorating her church, for bake sales, cooking for funeral luncheons and Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll drives, and coordinating casino bus trips with George. She picked friends up for church and opened her house up for her lady friends to come and play cards every Thursday. She made her home welcome to all. She loved God, her family, her gardens and her dog Molly. She had more energy than women half her age. She was nicknamed the “Energizer Bunny.” If she set a goal for the day, she accomplished it, no matter how tired she was. She always said with a sigh, “I got it done.” She will always be remembered for her smile, her wit, her hospitality and her donuts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; and her brother, John “Jack” Brohl.
She is survived by her children, George (Deborah) Wiegand of Leonard, Theresa (James) Carter of Goodrich, Robert (Ronda) Wiegand of Dryden, Cheryl (Ed) Stanek of Almont, Carol (Mike) Fontana of Ray, Jessie (Dale) Kaptor of Washington Twp., and John Wiegand of Imlay City; 23 grandchildren, Bethany (Brian) Wiegand-Vietzke, James Carter, JoAnne Carter, Kimberly Carter, Thomas Carter, Rachel (Dustin)Lahman, Rebecca Wiegand, Alicia Stanek, Jordan (Sara) Stanek, Aaron Stanek, Kristen Stanek, Larissa Wiegand, Angelique Wiegand, Melitta (Jacob) Young, Victoria Wiegand, Leah (Ryan) Korodan, Jacob Fontana, Mary Fontana, Amanda (Donald) Godsey, JessieAnna Kaptor, Sarah (Ryan) Matson, Emily (Ethan) Moore and Abigail Kaptor; 15 great-grandchildren, Bradly, Brianna, Brendon, Aiden, Dylan, Alyssa, Connor, Hadley, Blake, Charlotte, Eleanor, Ava, Kylee, Lucas and Mason; and two more soon to arrive.
