Maria Guajardo, 84, of Imlay City, died Sunday, November 15, 2020 at her home. Maria del Refugio Guajardo was born March 8, 1936 in Gomez Palacio, Durango, Mexico. She was the daughter of the late David and the late Maria de (Jesus) Guajardo. Maria grew up in San Antonio, TX. She married Alejandro Chavez. Alejandro preceded Maria in death. Maria’s second marriage was to Trinidad San Miguel. Maria’s husband, Trinidad, preceded her in death.
She was employed as a general laborer by Van Dyk Farms in Imlay City.
Maria was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society. She loved to garden.
She is survived by her daughters, Susana (George) Rocha of Imlay City and Angelica (Jose) Ortega of Imlay City; son, Norberto (Rosa) Chavez of Imlay City; sister, Gloria Dimas of TX; and her three brothers, Ganzalo Guajardo of FL, Juan Guajardo of TX and Fernando Guajardo of TX. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Norberto Chavez, Jr., Rene, Jose Ortega, Jr., Victoria Ortega, Oscar Ortega, Steban Ortega, Estrella Rocha, and Vanessa Chavez.
Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Alejandro Chavez; husband, Trinidad San Miguel; and her son, Saul Chavez.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 700 Maple Vista, Imlay City, MI. Reverend Fr. Noel Cornelio, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
The family will be available for visitation 9-11 a.m., Thursday, November 19 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 700 Maple Vista, Imlay City, MI.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City.
Due to recent health concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing (six feet apart), masks (to be worn at all times), and limited occupation of the funeral home and the church will be enforced.
