Lapeer County voters must realize in this election cycle that no amount of Trump flags, banners, hats and t-shirts can deny the facts about the Trump presidency. It’s clear to see the damage he has done to this country.

In 2016, Lapeer County voters helped elect a president who has been hostile to immigrants, shown contempt for women, disregarded civil and religious liberties, called service members “losers” and “suckers,” disregarded the sacrifices of Vietnam era veterans, cut the monetary budgets of many necessary federal programs, tried to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, claimed to be the greatest president for African-American people since Abraham Lincoln, has not built the border wall that Mexico was going to pay for, reduced the environmental restrictions on businesses, allowed oil companies to increase drilling on some of the most revered state and federal lands, sided with right-wing extremists and called on them to “Stand back and stand by,” will not denounce systemic racism in this country, endorses hate against Democratic governors including Gretchen Whitmer, enacted tax cuts for the very wealthy, claimed he saved the auto industry, paid only $750 in federal income taxes in 2016-2017, has been bankrupt multiple times, negotiated terrible trade deals with China, denounced climate change and the coronavirus and has staged theatrical events in an attempt to persuade voters, like when he held up a Bible in front of the church across the street from the White House as police beat back peaceful protestors.

Trump states he would say or do anything to get re-elected and I hope that Lapeer County voters do not fall for a president who campaigns on a series of empty promises and lies again.
