Judith “Judy” Brooks, 87, of Imlay City, MI died Monday, October 19, 2020 at Angela’s House Assisted Living of Imlay City, MI. Judith Leola Hackett was born July 16, 1933 in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. She was the daughter of the late Lyle and the late Dorthea (Tellis) Hackett. Judy grew up in Mount Clemens, MI. She was a graduate of Mount Clemens High School, Class of 1951. Judy attended Bowling Green University in Bowling Green, OH. She married James “Jim” Brooks on February 5, 1955 in Mt. Clemens, MI. Judy and Jim moved to Lum, MI in 1965 and then to Imlay City, MI in 1972. She was preceded in death by husband, Jim, on March 21, 2010.
Judy loved being a homemaker, raising her family. Judy worked as a financial officer and president of James Brooks Insurance Company in Port Huron and Imlay City, MI. Judy was a member of Imlay City First Congregational United Church of Christ in Imlay City, MI. She was very involved in the life of the church. She was a lifelong quilter and crafter. Judy volunteered with the church ladies to make quilts to sell for LACADA in Lapeer, MI. Judy and Jim enjoyed square dancing, RV camping, and playing cards (Hearts, etc.).
Judy is survived by her daughters, Susan (Randy) McNary of Imlay City, Beth Anne (Dale) Brooks-Simpson of Marlette and Imlay City, Sarah Brooks of Flushing, MI and Jennifer (Glenn) Huffman of Waupaca, WI; sister, Kathryn Hackett of Anaheim, CA; brother, Stephen Hackett of CA; eleven grandchildren, Lee Anne Simpson, Amy Lynn Simpson, Theodore James Simpson, Erin Koues, John McNary, Meghan Knierien, Molly Fearon, Stephen McNary, Ian Huffman, Christopher Huffman and Eric Huffman; and her eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Brooks; and her brother, Richard Hackett.
A private family funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 22, 2020 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 275 Bancroft Street, Imlay City, MI. Reverend Dave Forsberg, pastor of the Imlay City First Congregational United Church of Christ will officiate. Interment will follow at Imlay Township Cemetery.
Due to recent health concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing (six feet apart), masks (to be worn at all times), and limited occupation of the funeral home and the church will be enforced.
The family will be available for visitation 3-5 & 6-8 Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI.
