Sylvia Yerty, age 57, of Imlay City, MI died Thursday, September 17, 2020 after an extended illness at McLaren Lapeer Region Hospital. Sylvia Jean Yerty was born August 9, 1963 in Mt. Clemens, MI. She was the daughter of Phillip Howard and the late Mary Catherine (Rivard) Yerty. Sylvia grew up in Imlay City. Sylvia was a graduate of Imlay City High School, Class of 1981 and she studied towards a nursing degree at U of M-Flint.
Sylvia became a born again Christian in 1982. She fought a courageous battle against breast cancer over these last six years.
Sylvia worked as a nurses’ aide at Suncrest – Lapeer County Medical Care Facility in Lapeer for several years. Immediately after high school, she had worked for a few years in Florida in the travel and hospitality industry.
She spent much of her free time volunteering for her church’s food pantry. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and other crafts.
Sylvia is survived by her father, Phillip (Victoria) Yerty; her sister, Caroline (Kirk) Scully of Columbia, TN; her nephew, Mason (Raquel) Scully of Freeland, MI; and great-nieces, Kinsley Scully and Raegan Scully. Also surviving are several very close and special cousins.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her mother, Mary C. Yerty (in 2001).
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Imlay Township Cemetery, 682 N. Fairgrounds Rd., Imlay City, MI. Pastor Brad Standfest of the Vineyard Church of Almont will officiate. Burial of her cremated remains will be in Imlay Township Cemetery, Imlay City at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2020.
Due to recent health concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing (six feet apart) and masks (to be worn at all times) will be enforced.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI.
