Patrick Northrop, age 58, of Imlay City, died Sunday, September 6, 2020 at his home. Patrick James Northrop was born January 23, 1962 in Lapeer, MI. He was the son of the late Jay and the late Rose (Elwart) Northrop. Patrick lived in the Imlay City area until high school. The family moved up north to Hillman where he was a 1980 graduate of Hillman High School. He attended and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Technological University in Houghton, MI; he earned his Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Lawrence Technical University in Detroit. While living in Commerce Twp., he met and married Elizabeth Barlaan. They were married on June 4, 2014 in Commerce Twp., MI. Patrick had formed a charitable organization called “Dreams Accomplished” to help support handicapped individuals in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, due to his own health issues, he had to dis-solve it in 2016. Patrick was employed by B.A.S.F. Corporation as a Chemical Engineer. Patrick was a Supervisory Engineer in the development of paint and undercoating materials at B.A.S.F. Corporation. He spent 4 years in Japan; and traveled regularly to Germany and many other countries around the world for B.A.S.F.

Patrick is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Barlaan Northrop of Imlay City; stepchildren, Bea Barlaan, Marjorie Anne DeLa Cruz, Elizabeth Barlaan, Babel Christian Barlaan, and Basil Barlaan; sisters, Rosalie Hinman of Imlay City, and Mary Lou Northrop of Grand Rapids, MI; brothers, Stanley (Diana) Northrop of Wisconsin, Wally (Karen) Northrop of Attica, and Matthew Northrop of Bois Blanc Island, MI.

Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Rose Northrop; brother-in-law, Kenneth Hinman; sister-in-law, Barbara Northrop; a nephew, Brockton Northrop; and a niece, Stephanie Northrop.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 700 Maple Vista, Imlay City, MI. Rev. Fr. Noel Cornelio, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate.

A Rosary/prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. September 9, 2020 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI.

Burial will be in St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery in Hillman, MI, 12 p.m. noon Friday, September 11.

The family will be available for visitation 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City and from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

As always, due to recent health concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing (six feet apart), masks (to be worn at all times), and limited occupation (10 people at a time) of the funeral home will be enforced.
