CAPAC — The village will seek a renewal of their roads millage later this fall.

At their August 3 meeting, the council voted unanimously to place the measure on the November 3 general election ballot.

The millage funds will be used for the “improvement, construction and/or repair of roads, highways, streets and/or bridges” from 2022 to 2026, per the council’s motion.

The two mill levy was first approved by voters in August 2014 and renewed again in 2016 for a period of four years, from 2018 to 2021.

In prior years, the council has opted to acquire a loan against the collected road monies so they could leverage multiple years’ worth of funding at one time to repave village streets.

When it was first levied in 2014, the millage generated about $59,000 per year. Based on current taxable values, the renewed millage would raise an estimated $64,500 the first year it is levied.
