LAPEER COUNTY — Metamora Township Police are asking the public for tips or information regarding a possible police impersonator.

According to a press release from their office, a 22 year-old male reported that someone, appearing to be an officer, initiated a traffic stop on Thursday, August 13, near Lapeer and Dryden roads.

The victim said the man was wearing tactical clothing and had a gun belt with a taser and handgun.

The suspect asked the driver for his license, proof of insurance and registration but the driver, suspecting something wasn’t right, said he wanted to call 911 first. The suspect then returned to his vehicle and left the scene.

The suspect was driving a black Dodge Charger with a police light bar and push bar with red and blue lights, along with multiple antennas on the trunk.

The impersonator is described as being around 30 years-old with short dark hair, six feet tall and approximately 220 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Metamora Township Police Department at (810) 678-3657.
