Mary Bruce, 89, of Imlay City, MI died Monday, August 10, 2020 at her home in Imlay City surrounded by her loving family. Mary Katherine Dumont was born November 24, 1930 in Mikado, MI. She was the daughter of the late Amil and the late Amelia (McGillis) Dumont. Mary grew up in Mikado, MI and was a graduate of Oscoda High School, Class of 1947.
She married Roger Lyle Bruce on June 17, 1950 in Mikado, MI. Roger died on May 16, 2013. Mary and Roger and their family moved to Imlay City in 1970. She was a hairdresser/stylist and operated Mary’s Beauty Salon in Imlay City for 40-plus years. Mary has been a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City since the early 1970s. She participated in the choir, Altar Society and Sunday school programs. Mary loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren; she enjoyed her cats, crossword puzzles, card games and board games, and her husband’s horses.
Mary is survived by her children, Roger J. Bruce of Mikado, MI, James Bruce of Imlay City, William Bruce of Grand Blanc, Jan (Doug) Thompson of Imlay City and John (Gayle) Bruce of Hawaii; her daughter-in-law, Mindy Bruce of Imlay City; sister, Janice Marion; and three brothers, Jim Dumont, Joe Dumont and Martin Dumont. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; a daughter, Michelle Bruce; a son, Christopher Bruce; a daughter-in-law, Donna Bruce; brothers, Jack and Frank; and her sister, Elaine Nimmoth.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 700 Maple Vista, Imlay City, MI. Reverend Father Noel Cornelio will officiate. Burial of Mary’s cremated remains will be in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Imlay
City.
The Bruce family will be available for visiting hours from 10-11 a.m., Thursday, August 13, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 700 Maple Vista, Imlay City, MI.
Due to recent health concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing (six feet apart), masks (to be worn at all times), and limited occupation of the church sanctuary will be enforced.
