Drive-up testing offered today at Capac Schools

TRI-CITY AREA — Lapeer County’s total COVID-19 case count grew by 51 new cases in the past week and officials reported one additional death.

As of Monday, August 10, Lapeer County had 395 confirmed and 232 recovered cases. Those who’ve died from the virus now total 32. Per the statistics provided by the health department, the victim was a member of the general public and appears to have been in their 40s.

Kathy Haskins, Lapeer County Health Department Director, said that early this week 16 residents were hospitalized, three with confirmed COVID-19 test result and 13 with “suspect” cases. These are individuals who’ve been tested due to their symptoms but haven’t yet received their results.

Late last week, Haskins said recent positive test results were from both within the migrant worker and general public populations.

As of Monday, St. Clair County had 824 total cases, 694 recovered and 77 active cases. There were no additional deaths in the past week.

As a reminder, drive-up COVID-19 testing will be offered today, August 12, from 3-7 p.m. at Capac Jr./Sr. High School. Immunizations will also be offered for those 0-18 years of age.
