Verne A. Nickolaus, 83, of Allenton, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2020 at Ascension Providence Hospital in Rochester Hills. He was born October 23, 1936 in Hamilton, NE, the son of Arno and Helen Margaret (Hunter) Nickolaus. He moved with his family to Michigan when he was 4 years old. His father began farming and soon Verne had his own farm raising dairy cattle, then beef cattle, along with many crops. Verne was also a licensed contractor and built homes as well as remodeling many. He enjoyed hunting and fishing including camping in an army tent in the Upper Peninsula hunting for deer. He was a member of the West Berlin United Methodist Church where he served as trustee, a member of the Almont F&AM, and former member of the Future Farmers of America.
He is survived by his wife, Tamara; his children, Kent (Shelley) Nickolaus of Addison, Julia (Robert) Holmes of Mt. Pleasant, Christine (Dennis) Pietrowski of North Shores and Kevin (Michelle) Nickolaus of Williamsport, PA; grandchildren, Katie, Cody, Emily, Kara, Kelsey, Nickolaus, John and Matthew; and one great-granddaughter, Ellie. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Eileen.
Arrangements were entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Almont.
A private family graveside service will take place.
