Nona Desmet, 92, of Imlay City/Dryden, MI passed away peacefully of natural causes at Suncrest – Lapeer County Medical Care Facility on Thursday, April 23, 2020.

Nona Waldorf was born April 11, 1928 in Buffalo, NY. She was the daughter of the late Peter and the late Julia Waldorf. She married Robert Desmet on January 22, 1949 in Detroit, MI and he preceded her in death on November 3, 1988.

She is survived by her children, Linda Scutt of Schoharie, NY, Doug (Gayle) Desmet of Attica, MI, Julie (Bill) Hall of Cass City, MI and Kathie Suddarth of Imlay City, MI. She is also survived by her brother, Bill (Tootsie) Waldorf of New Baltimore, MI; seven grandchildren, Randy (Aimee) Rathka of Berne, NY, Amy (Robert) Bartow of Schoharie, NY, Angela (AC) Mastando of Charlottesville, NY, Amber Desmet of Pompano Beach, FL, Michael Timm of Cass City, MI, Crystal (Adam) Zehel of Capac, MI and Megan Timm of Southgate, MI.

Nona had many great-grandchildren: Ashley Goguen, Joseph Vroman, Emily Rathka, Nikki Vroman, Zachary Rathka, Mathew Bartow, Abby Bartow, Jacob Bartow, Madison Mastando, Anthony Mastando, Cerella Desmet, Gwen Timm, Kaden Zehel, Ryan Zehel, and Robert Paille; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, Robert Desmet; great-grandchild, Marrissa Bartow; and sons-in-law, Lee Suddarth and Dean Scutt.

Nona was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 2492 in Imlay City for over 45 years. Some of her favorite things to do were watching wrestling with her BFF, Mary King, spending time with her family and friends, playing cards, bingo, crafts, casinos, painting, coloring and volunteering when she could. She enjoyed her time with the friends she made at Suncrest, including staff members, whom the family would like to thank for their care and compassion.

The family will be available for visitation 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 28 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City (corner of 4th Street and Main). A maximum of 10 people at a time during visitation.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 29 at Imlay Township Cemetery, 783 N. Fairgrounds Rd. Camille Desmet will officiate. Interment will take place at Imlay Township Cemetery.

The funeral arrangements were entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City.
