Marguerite K. Gibbard, 96, of Imlay City, MI, died Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at the Suncrest-Lapeer County Medical Care Facility. Marguerite Katherine Brinker was born December 1, 1923 in Warren, MI. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and the late Irene (Burg) Brinker. Marguerite moved to Hadley, MI in the late 1920s and then to Imlay City in the early 1930s. She grew up in Imlay City and was a graduate of Imlay City Community School, Class of 1942. She married Warren Gibbard on August 16, 1943 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City. Marguerite and Warren had lived in Imlay City from the time they were married until approximately 2013, when both moved into the Suncrest Medical Care Facility. Warren passed away in October 2015.
Marguerite was employed at Hurd Lock Manufacturing in Almont while Warren served in the United States Army during WWII. She then worked as a stay at home Mom until 1965 when she started work at the Imlay City Schools as a cook. She worked there nearly 20 years.
Marguerite enjoyed bowling, golf, ice fishing, and being in the woods during maple syrup gathering and processing season.
She is survived by one son, David (Diana) Gibbard of Lapeer; one daughter, Joan (Brian) LaLone of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; also surviving is her brother, Bill (Marilyn) Brinker of Rensselaer, IN; her five grandchildren, Matt (Traci) Gibbard, Greg (Katie) Gibbard, Chantelle (Jerry) Catania, Aimee (Paul) Morf and Renee LaLone; along with seven great-grandchildren, Samantha, Tyler, Cora, Mila, Audrey, Emily and Abe; and by several nieces and nephews.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, Warren, (October 2, 2015) and her parents.
Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be held at a later date. Burial will be at the Imlay Township Cemetery.
