TRI-CITY AREA — Over the weekend, Lapeer County’s confirmed COVID-19 case count topped out at 45 and St. Clair County reported their first deaths attributed to the virus.
The St. Clair County Health Department said one individual, an older male, with previous underlying health conditions, passed away April 3. The second individual was a female patient at McLaren Port Huron passed away on March 30. The results of her positive test came days after her death, on April 3. She was in her 80s and “had underlying health conditions prior to contracting the virus,” the health department said in a release.
In Lapeer County, the health department’s case count tally jumped dramatically from 26 confirmed cases on Saturday to 45 by Sunday.
Late last week, the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department reported that one of their deputies, currently on sick leave due to an injury, tested positive for the virus. Sheriff Scott McKenna said that since the deputy has been on leave for several month, they weren’t concerned about potential spread within their facilities.
