The players and the numbers they
produced in shortened season

TRI-CITY AREA — Week in and week out you have read about their accomplishments on these sports pages, now it is time to reveal which players set themselves apart from the rest.

Here is a look at who gained selection to the Tri-City Times All-Area boys’ basketball team and the numbers they produced along the way.

Jack Kaplan, Dryden.

Kaplan amassed 410 points over 21 games, an average of 19.5 points per contest, during the 2019-20 campaign.

That left him first on the Dryden squad and among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.

The 5-10 junior guard also grabbed 110 rebounds, registered 91 steals and handed off 61 assists.

It was his third year on Dryden’s varsity.

He completed the season as an All-North Central Thumb League Stars Division first team selection.

Gabe Bourdeau, Almont.

Bourdeau supplied 244 points in 20 regular season games, an average of 12.2 points per contest, this winter.

That placed him first on the Almont squad and second among those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.

The 6-2 senior guard also pulled down 104 rebounds, registered 70 steals and handed off 66 assists.

Bourdeau completed his third season at the varsity level as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team choice.

Joey Montney, Capac.

Montney netted 194 points in 19 regular season games, an average of 10.2 points per contest, this winter.

That placed him first on the Capac squad and third among those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.

The 5-7 junior guard also handed off 66 assists, registered 63 steals and pulled down 41 rebounds.

Montney finished his second season at the varsity level as an All-Greater Thumb Conference East honorable mention selection.

Nate Schenkel, Dryden.

Schenkel managed 207 points over 21 contests, an average of 9.9 points per game, during the 2019-20 campaign.

That ranked him second on the Dryden squad and fourth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.

The 6-4 junior center also pulled down 146 rebounds, contributed 30 steals and handed off 24 assists.

It was his third year on Dryden’s varsity.

He ended the season as an All-North Central Thumb League Stars Division second team pick.

Joey Savel, Almont.

Savel provided 186 points over 20 regular season games, an average of 9.3 points per game, during the 2019-20 campaign.

That ranked him second on the Almont squad and fifth among those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.

The 5-10 junior guard also contributed 30 steals and 24 assists to Almont’s cause.

It was his second year on Almont’s varsity.

He wrapped up the season as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention choice.

Hunter Medrano, Imlay City.

Medrano generated 174 points in 21 games, an average of 8.3 points per contest, this winter.

That placed him second on the Imlay City squad and sixth among those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.

The 6-2 senior center also grabbed 152 rebounds, blocked 33 shots, registered 13 steals and handed off 10 assists.

Medrano concluded his third season at the varsity level as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention pick.

Brett Wrobel, Almont.

Wrobel collected 154 points over 20 regular season games, an average of 7.7 points per game, during the 2019-20 campaign.

That ranked him third on the Almont squad and seventh among those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.

The 5-11 senior guard also pulled down 64 rebounds and handed off 26 assists.

It was his third year on Almont’s varsity.

Wrobel completed the season as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention selection.

Colby Schapman, Almont.

Schapman managed 112 points in 20 regular season games, an average of 5.6 points per contest, this winter.

That placed him fifth on the Almont squad and eighth among those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.

The 6-5 senior forward also grabbed 150 rebounds, registered 42 steals and handed off 34 assists.

Schapman finished his second season at the varsity level as an All-Blue Water Area Conference second team choice.

He also was named to the BWAC’s All-Defensive team.

Ronny Hudson, Dryden.

Hudson furnished 107 points in 20 games, an average of 5.3 points per game, during the 2019-20 campaign.

That ranked him fourth on the Dryden squad and ninth among those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.

The 6-2 senior guard also pulled down 85 rebounds, handed off 63 assists and registered 29 steals.

It was his third year on Dryden’s varsity.

Hudson wrapped up the season as an All-North Central Thumb League Stars Division honorable mention choice.

He also was named to his conference’s team as a Defensive Specialist.

Second team- Hank Barker, Capac; Coulter Waite, Dryden; Raymond Liu, Imlay City; Parker Lewis, Imlay City; Ethan Ledford, Dryden; Josh Schornak, Dryden; Kayden Braun, Capac; Andrew Badder, Imlay City; Jacob Rayl, Almont; and Mike Rinke, Almont.

Honorable mention- Riley Bertram, Imlay City; Will Tolley, Imlay City; and Blake Cody, Almont.

Coach of the Year- For directing Dryden to a 15-6 overall mark, a 9-3 North Central Thumb League Stars Division showing and a spot in a Division 4 district championship game, John DelCampo earns Tri-City Times All-Area Coach of the Year accolades.

John Hall, who guided Almont to
13-8 overall record
and a 9-5 Blue Water Area Conference
mark, was also considered for those accolades.
