I would like to commend the Lapeer County Board of Commissioners for passing the Second Amendment Sanctuary Resolution. It sends a message to the gun grabbers in Lansing and Washington, D.C. Lapeer is one of several counties in Michigan to adopt or who are considering adopting similar resolutions.

A recent study of the number of firearms vs. homicide rates from 1993 to 2013 showed the number of privately-owned firearms increased by 56 percent while the rate of homicides decreased by 49 percent.

Additional gun laws will not solve the problem, it only hinders or restricts the law-abiding citizens’ rights. There is a saying that when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.

I hear gun grabbers tell us “we just want to eliminate weapons of war.” Virtually every type of firearm sold today has been or is used by the military—bolt action rifles, single and double action revolvers, pump shot guns, semi action handguns.

As I have stated, guns are not the problem. The problem, in my opinion, are left wing politicians, liberal judges and prosecutors who favor light sentences and early release.
