The Lapeer Board of Commissioners decision to approve a resolution declaring Lapeer County to be a Second Amendment sanctuary is a political ploy pandering to the large constituency in this county that live in fear of being deprived of their rights. While that constituency may be numerous, it is by no means total, and I for one wish to express my deep displeasure at knowing that my county government is more concerned about the merest possibility that someone in this county, no matter how deranged, may be deprived of a firearm than the rights of our schoolchildren, our Walmart shoppers, our churchgoers—in short, everyone to travel, work, play, shop, or worship in this county without fear of being gunned down.
The Board of Commissioners should be supporting gun control reform, not devoting our tax dollars to undermining it.
