IMLAY CITY — Imlay City qualified two grapplers to the Division 2 individual state finals set for March 6-7 at Ford Field in Detroit.
They earned the right to compete there with top-four weight class placings last Saturday at a Gaylord High School-based regional.
Joe Harper headlined for Imlay City that day. Harper reached the title bout at 285 pounds where he pinned Dewitt’s Connor Pochert with 3:50 gone.
Dakota Sandzik was the other Imlay City wrestler who continued his postseason path, acquiring a fourth. Sandzik wrapped up his stint at 119 pounds when he was pinned by Clio’s Mason Malin with 1:35 gone.
Imlay City’s Anthony D’Ambrosio came within a win of advancing to the state finals as well. D’Ambrosio competed at 130 pounds.
Cristian Rojas was the other Imlay City grappler who battled it out for a spot at the Division 2 state finals. Rojas wound up with a tough draw and exited with a 0-2 showing versus 125-pound counterparts.
