The Ruth Hughes Memorial District Library will be hosting the Love Your Library silent auction February 5-12. This has become an exciting event, eagerly anticipated by patrons of the library as well as the entire community.
Friends, neighbors and businesses can donate their services, new items, antiques, gift baskets, jewelry, gift certificates or other items of value. The items are placed on display and using a special number, supporters of the library can bid on the items. Bidders can return from time to time to check on their bids and increase the amount if necessary. The highest bidder at the end of the auction receives the item. It is really fun and there is often a battle to be the last bidder on the final day.
The money raised will be used to purchase items and support programs for the library. People in the community are making great use of the library. It is busier than even, whether for reading, storytime, doing research, using the computer lab or just enjoying the beautiful facility. Your library serves a vital role in the community. For many, the library provides the only access to computers and the internet for homework, job applications and a link to the larger world. Your library also hosts many events for young children, teens and adults including story time, crafts, computer classes and guest speakers. Ruth Hughes staff and supporters also participate in community-wide events such as the Farmers Market, Winter Playground, Busker Fest and Attica Days.
We need the community’s help to make this a successful auction. If you are able to donate an item, a service or gift certificate, it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact us at 810-724-8043.
