Doug Halabicky buys city’s
old public safety building

IMLAY CITY — State Farm Insurance Agent Doug Halabicky is in the process of renovating the former Narayan Pharmacy building at 335 E. Third St. to serve as his new office.

The business is currently located at 223 Third Street in downtown Imlay
City.

Prior to Narayan moving into the building several years ago, the brick structure had served as Imlay City’s public safety building.

Halabicky said he purchased the now vacant building for the purpose of expanding his operations and adding sales staff.

He noted that he plans to move into the western portion of the 4,500-square-foot building in the spring, while leasing out the eastern portion to another business.

“I needed a lot more room.” said Halabicky, “and this building will accommodate additions to our sales staff.”

He said he purchased the building from local realtor Tom Blount and renovations are being made to the structure by Creekside Construction.

DDA awards grant

Halabicky was recently the recipient of a “facade grant’ from the Imlay City Downtown Development Authority Board in the amount of $2,316.

He said the funds will be used for the purchase and installation of new windows.

While nothing is set in stone, Halabicky floated the possibility that another local business owner may open a coffee shop at the other end of the building.

As a matter of note, the Imlay City DDA Board also awarded $2,100 in facade grant funding to Total Urgent Care at 147 N. Almont Ave. for the purpose of replacing windows and doors at the building.
