Every year has the potential to be a “big” news year but there’s no doubt 2020 will fall into that category. Our 12 month calendar is already starting to fill up with important events that will find space in these pages.
First of all, it’s an presidential election year and a election year that includes nearly every township and county-level office too. Naturally, it all depends on how many candidates choose to throw their hat in the ring and either seek re-election or challenge an incumbent. There seems to be a renewed interest in local government matters so the candidate profile could come be voluminous.
It’s a Census year too so there will be plenty of headlines reminding folks of the importance of being counted by the federal government.
Big plans are already underway for big celebrations in the Tri-City area too. Imlay City will mark the big 1-5-0 in August with a two-day Sesquicentennial event and it’s also Almont’s turn to host their every five year Homecoming, also in August. Look for special guides from us on both of these special occasions, highlighting the rich histories of both communities.
There will be projects to report on in both the public and private sectors including road repairs, new business development in Capac and Almont, the launch of Imlay City Schools’ bond projects and the completion of the city’s new fire hall and that’s just a small sampling.
Naturally, our local schools will be hubs of activity both in and out of the classroom. Dedicated staff and talented, generous students are constantly coming up with new and unique ways to learn and lend a hand within their communities. Those are some of our favorite stories to write.
The ways that we deliver all that news to you will evolve in 2020 too. Our print edition will have a refreshed look and we’ll continue exploring various tools to bring you all the latest headlines.
There’s little doubt that 2020 will be an interesting year. We’re looking forward to bringing it all to you.
Happy New Year!
