The letter from Carolyn Medland in the November 27 issue of the Tri-City Times, “Aid is being withheld from Ukraine,” has a few facts that are correct and some ideas I sympathize with, but she is incorrect on one important fact. Ukraine is not a member of NATO although it has aspired to be for some time and has sympathetic support. There is no contractual requirement we go to their aid as she infers.
