On Sunday, November 24, 2019, Almont lost Henry “Hank” C. Gutenkunst – a man of extraordinary talent and commitment to the community of Almont.
I first met Hank in the early 1980s at an Almont Athletic Boosters meeting. He was one of the driving forces behind the Boosters. He worked tirelessly to provide the funds needed to support the student-athletes of Almont when the school district did not have the money to adequately fund the sport programs.
In recent years he worked for the township as the sexton for several of the local cemeteries. With limited funds and old cemeteries, he did what was needed to maintain these facilities. This is a frustrating and thankless job.
My wife and I will miss Hank. We’ll say a pray for his family in their time of sorrow.
