Signage at Lake George and Newark roads will soon make way for cars once a resurfacing project on Newark wraps up.
Local road projects near completion
ATTICA TWP. — Lapeer County Road Commission’s last project for the season is nearing its conclusion. The resurfacing of Newark Road in portions of Attica and Lapeer townships continues to progress and Destain Gingell, county highway engineer, said sometime this week, crews would put down a hot mix asphalt course on the road between Lake Pleasant and Broker roads. Curb and gutter work was underway late last week.
Then all that’s left is for the final shoulder aggregate to be placed and the road can re-open to traffic. Those tasks are weather dependent, particularly the final course of asphalt.
Gingell said that work further west along Newark Road, extending beyond M-24 into Elba Township, will be ongoing over the next few weeks. Also, in that vicinity, an asphalt overlay of Wilder Road, between I-69 and Newark road is planned.
Once those projects are wrapped up, road commission staff can start to shape up their plans for 2020. Among the projects on that list already is the resurfacing of General Squire Road between Rochester Road and the village of Almont in Almont and Dryden Townships.
In 2019, Lapeer County tackled $10 million worth of primary road repairs. Projects completed within the last calendar year in the Tri-City area included the resurfacing of Imlay City Road in Imlay Township between Dorrow and Cade roads and an overlay project on Kidder Rd. in Almont Township.
