While I was happy to see the recent letters to the editor in the Tri-City Times concerning the chicken pox vaccine, I was disappointed that neither letter mentioned Reye’s Syndrome. While it is no longer a reportable disease, Reye’s Syndrome sadly still occurs.
Reye’s Syndrome can occur in children/teens who have the chicken pox or the flu and are given aspirin. This can include products that contain salicylic acid. It is not talked about much now, so unfortunately cases of Reye’s continue as many people do not know the dangers of the use of aspirin in children/teens.
I would appreciate it if you mentioned the dangers of aspirin and educate your readers about Reye’s Syndrome. As a survivor, I know how devastating this disease can be.
Sincerely,
