Elmer Brinker, age 91, of Imlay City, MI died after an extended illness Friday, September 27, 2019 at McLaren Lapeer Regional Hospital. Elmer Peter Brinker was born March 21, 1928 in Imlay City, MI. He was the son of the late Joseph and the late Mary (Wolf) Brinker. He grew up in and around Imlay City. Elmer was a graduate of Imlay City High School, Class of 1946. He married Lucille Margaret Creger on February 23, 1957 in Imlay City, MI. Elmer was a dairy farmer on his family owned farm for many years; and he worked for 26 years at Pontiac Motors Plant #8 performing auto repairs on new cars. He retired from Pontiac Motors Corporation as an auto mechanic in the mid- 1980s.
Elmer was an excellent baseball player. He played for the Sacred Heart Catholic Church softball team and coached Little League baseball in Imlay City for years. He enjoyed bowling, golf and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Brinker; one daughter, Linda (Al) Swoish of North Branch, MI and two sons, Ed (Karen) Brinker of Imlay City, MI and Michael (Jesusita) Brinker of Remus, MI; and grandchildren, Amber Bowen, Mike Swoish, Alicia (Ethan) Martus, Grant Brinker and Ryan Brinker.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Brinker; a sister, Mildred Brinker; and brothers, Tony, Larry, Norm, Joe and Lee.
A Mass of the Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 700 Maple Vista, Imlay City, MI. Reverend Father Noel Cornelio will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Imlay City.
The family will be available for visiting hours from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 700 Maple Vista, Imlay City, MI.
A Scripture / Rosary Service will be recited at the funeral Home at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening.
