Chester E. Glass, 76, of Almont passed away peacefully on Monday, September 23, 2019 surrounded by his wife and children following a long battle with an illness.
He was born June 1, 1943 in Detroit the son of Chester and Henrietta (Ruhig) Glass where he grew up graduating from Murray Wright High School. He was an Army Veteran and loved riding his motorcycle where he was the treasurer of his motorcycle club. He married Barbara Luddington in 1965 and soon afterwards they bought their first home in Roseville. After living several years there, Chester moved his family out to the “country life” of Almont, where his love of nature grew.
Chester enjoyed taking his kids and grandkids for hayrides, planting and harvesting his garden, feeding birds and deer and eventually began raising Monarch butterflies. His love of the Monarchs grew, and before too long he was collecting Monarch eggs and caterpillars to share with anyone who wanted to raise them as well. Chester worked for Lamb Tool and Die, and then for General Motors until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Colleen (Todd) Smith and Brian (Natalie) Glass; grandchildren, Becca (Nick) Frye, Kelsey, Derek, Tyler and Jared; and great-grandchildren, Noah and Lucas. Also surviving are sisters, Diane Morton, Pat (Tony) Grzyb and Ruth Glass; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents; sister, Jo Glass; and brothers, Paul and John Glass.
